I have not seen the film. However, the gay uncle character seemed to not overdominate the evening, but maybe that's just because the actor playing him (Jerry O’Boyle) wasn't the huge personality I'm assuming Harvey is/was in the role. Which I guess is a good thing, because it would seem strange to have the show focus on him too much. I also didn't really get that it was a memory play for Uncle Winston from Porchlight's production.

Have you seen the film? It happened to be on TMC the day I saw this on Broadway and it really illustrated what was wrong with that production - namely Harvey decided to make it all about his character and make it a memory piece for him, when the character should be almost non-existent. Really threw the show off balance and I'm wondering if this has been fixed in other productions...

Just found out that Will Chase has been cast in "Pipe Dream" at City Center Encores in NYC. He was so talented and sexy ( neither of which he can help!) when he did "Bells Are Ringing" with Kelli O'Hara. Life is good!

I agree with just about everything you mentioned; and we have to remember that this is not just television but commercial network television. If it happened to be a cable show, like the one that was in the works about a Sondheim type composer, we would probably have had a tad more realism, but this is 100% commercial tv for the masses. I could do without the subplot about adopting a baby from China, a noble thing for anyone to do, but not an interesting plot point for a show about the creation of a Broadway musical, even within tv soap opera terms. And please, someone, stop wasting Brian d'Arcy James as a housedad, science teacher......he has one of the most beautiful voices on Broadway. Do we have to wait for a Christmas special or some such thing to allow him to sing? Can't wait for next week when Will Chase appears!!
