I’ve been looking forward to this movie for some time. I was lucky enough to catch the tour with the AMAZING Cherry Jones as Sister Aloysius in Jan 2007. My review of that production is here. (Warning: Spoilers in this review regarding the ending. Although, when the play was on Broadway, it was well-known what the ending was, as the play is about the decision process, not the outcome.)
I wrote back in 07 that I would love to have Jones star in the movie, but her performance was so very much geared for the stage that it would’ve been difficult, maybe even impossible, to translate it to film. That, and a movie about nuns starring a relatively unknown stage actress would pretty much seal its fate.
In her place, Meryl Streep dons those face-pinching spectacles and body-consuming habit. PSH is doing his creepy, boyish best. It looks very promising. IMDB reports the release date as Jan 8. Can’t wait.
I don’t know…something about this feels off to me, like they’re shouting I’M ACTING to each other. I’m having a hard time getting Jones & O’Byrne out of my head, but of course I will give the old college try.
In other news, I’m not sure why JAMIE gets such a big plug in your tag cloud over there. Obviously you need to start stacking the deck in my favor, since currently I am not even represented. WTF, RivB? WTF?
!!!!!!!
This will be fixed, ASAP. Gator expressed his distress with his representation in my tag cloud recently, too.
Can I please no one? ;)
This is America, not a democracy. Now just wait till you start hearing from all the Sarahs…
Oh: and WOO HOO!
