Tony Award winner Alan Cumming brings his ‘Blue Car’ to Harris Theater

Tony award-winner Alan Cumming (and star of CBS hit series The Good Wife, and one of my favorite flicks this year, Bulesque) is bringing his hit one-man cabaret show, I Bought a Blue Car Today, to the Harris Theater for its Midwest premiere on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 7:30 pm.

I’ve heard really great things about this, and tickets are going fast. So get them.

I’ve been a fan of Cumming’s since he appeared on the Rosie O’Donnell show performing the title song from his Tony-winning turn as the Emcee in the ’94 revival of Cabaret. He exuded sex, danger and carefree fun.

Described as a “droll, naughty and seriously dishy evening,” the Los Angeles Times proclaims “Cumming is a born performer… he is first and foremost fabulous.” Accompanied by his multi-talented musical director Lance Horne and a full band, Cumming will belt out his favorite tunes — featuring everything from Cyndi Lauper and Dolly Parton to a musical montage including Hedwig and the Angry Itch and Cabaret — in this ever evolving autobiographical show, peppered with intimate tales and juicy gossip from his years in show business. I Bought A Blue Car Today is cheekily titled after an expression Cumming was asked to recite when applying to become a U.S. citizen in Fall 2008.

Here’s a clip of the incredibly charming Cumming promoting Blue Car on what I gather is the British equivalent of The View, and performing a rock-edged version of Sinatra’s “That’s Life”:

Tickets for I Bought A Blue Car Today range from $35 – $65 and are available at the Harris Theater Box Office located in Millennium Park at 205 E. Randolph Dr., by calling 312-334-7777 or visiting Harris Theater’s website.

  1. Luckkky! Would love to see this. I would buy a ticket just to see him perform “Taylor, the Latte Boy”! Enjoy!
