It’s official: American Theater Company has a hit on their hands. The Original Grease — the rough-and-tumble, R-rated musical which later become the much more family friendly phenomenon — will play through the summer. In addition, they’ve apparently shaved about 30 minutes from the running time by tightening up the modern-day graduation scenes that framed the musical, which were, by far, the weakest part of this knock-out production, among other edits.
Makes me want to go back and check it out!
With this news, it looks like Grease originator Jim Jacobs may get his wish for a long-running Chicago-based production of his original 1971 script.
